From Apple to Ego
The birthplace of the 7 powers in Genesis
Wasn't it in Genesis that the snake asks eve, what did God tell you about which trees to eat from? And eve said “we can eat from any but the one in the middle, for we can't touch it or eat it.” The snake said “oh that tree will give you wisdom like God, to know good from evil.” And eve said “but God said it would kill us” and the snake goes “no it won't.”
Who made the snake- God because God created all things. Did the snake lie, yes. But did God lie about them dying, not really. Because their innocence died, their ego was born. So yes a part of themselves did die. Was the tree giving them wisdom like God of good and evil: not really, it gave them awareness of self, and this awareness is the death of innocence and it is a form of intelligence. So No - they were not wise like God, but they were given an intelligence they didn't have before at the cost of their innocence.
This is the birthplace of the ego, the ego is that self awareness, it is the original sepperation from grace. Its where we now exist in our humanity with the knowledge of it. We are vulnerable, and aware of shame and guilt. We hide because we are guilty- we did what we did, we are ashamed we are naked ect. That sounds like egoic awareness to me. I honestly think its when we are acting out if our ego alone that we sin. When we act out of the ego alone often times is when we harm one another. We harm the planet. We put our needs and our desires above all else, we think our existence means more then all others. That is sin. The ego is the birthplace of the absence of God (unconditional love) and of grace.
When we were first in the garden we were united with God, grace and all things. We were unconditionally loved and it is only when we developed an ego that we are then sepperated from God. We are not one with all creation then, we are sepperate. This is the start of thise 7 powers of the ego. This is the curse of the fruit, the apple or more historical lyrics accurate a pomegranate.
It was only when we ate the fruit of knowledge that we gained this kind of sepperation, this individualism, this ego. Did we die no, but we kind of did. We were born a new kind of human- one who then has to grapple with their humanity and all the emotions that come along with it. So God didn't just curse Eve to be controlled by her husband, or painful births etc. I think God now had to love his creation even if their awareness strips them of their ability to welcome and accept the unconditional love of God.
I sat in my car contemplating this on my 1 hr drive back into the city, trying to beat out the snow. It was playing in my head over and over. The snake isnt of the devil, they were a creation of God. So our eating of the fruit was also a test by God. So perhaps all of this is just a test from God so the work then is to recognize when we are experiencing these 7 powers of the Ego and surrender back to God, and unconditional love. That's the real curse. Thats the real work, that's why we are here- over and over to fail and fall and get trapped in our ego and return to the unconditional love of God that dwells in everything through the heart /through the soul.
